Did you know that one in five people die of cardiovascular disease? This leading cause of mortality and morbidity affects not only the elderly, but also the young. In fact, this "national disease" has a dramatic impact on the quality of life.
In the Netherlands 1.7 million people suffer from heart or vascular disease, and this number is expected to rise to 2.6 million by 2030. With a societal price tag of €6.8 billion per year (2019) and hospital beds full of patients, our healthcare system is not sustainable.
That's why the Dutch CardioVascular Alliance (DCVA) supports its partners in urging the informants and fraction leaders to prioritize the prevention, early detection and treatment of cardiovascular disease in their work. To highlight this message, an infographic was created.
We also call on policy makers in the Department of Health, Welfare, and Sport to take action. Together, we can reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease, with a strong focus on translating existing knowledge into practice.
