Double Dose - Jan Willem Buikema

Since 2020 Dr. Jan W. Buikema is cardiologist with a focus on heart failure and imaging at the University Medical Center Utrecht, The Netherlands. He has completed his MD training at the University of Groningen in 2010 and subsequently obtained his PhD in 2014 from Utrecht University.

As part of his PhD he did a 3-years fellowship at at Harvard Medical School studying the roles of Wnt signaling and ventricular growth during murine development. After obtaining his PhD degree, he continued his residency and cardiology fellowships at the University Medical Center Utrecht. Between 2017-2018, Jan worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University which allowed him te evolve his research on the role of Wnt signaling in massive proliferation and sarcomere homeostasis of human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes.
