Birgit Goversen is a junior postdoc, closely affiliated with the Double Dose program, in the group of Prof. Jolanda van der Velden at the Amsterdam UMC.
In her research she focuses on the validation of induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (iPSC-CMs) for precision medicine assays for inherited cardiomyopathies. Her background is in iPSC-CM electrophysiology (PhD at the Department of Medical Physiology, UMC Utrecht) and her main research interest is to bridge the gap between research and clinic. To that end, she will develop a business case for the translation of iPSC-CM-based assays to the clinical practice. In addition, she is one of the founders and main organizers of the DCVA iPSC-CM journal club. In this journal club, five national centers that work on iPSC-CMs combine their expertise to highlight gaps in knowledge, and create common guidelines to improve the quality (control) of their own studies.
