The Dutch CardioVascular Alliance (DCVA) has launched a nationwide exploration aimed at mapping and reinforcing collaboration in the field of heart valve research in the Netherlands. Why this exploration?
Cardiovascular diseases remain one of the leading health challenges in the Netherlands. Since 2018, the DCVA has united 25 key organizations to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease by 25% in 2030.
To reach this ambitious goal, it is essential to enhance collaboration across disciplines and institutions. While there are promising local initiatives focused on heart valve research, there is currently no nationwide, interdisciplinary collaboration in this field. This limits the scientific impact and funding opportunities available. Find more information on DCVA explorations here.
About the exploration
To address this, the DCVA, in collaboration with a group of experts, has initiated a national exploration on heart valves. The project is led by three expert explorers:
The first phase of the project consists of a written inventory through a questionnaire. The goal is to identify current research efforts, existing consortia, relevant stakeholders, unmet needs, and potential synergies.
What happens next?
After the survey phase, the explorers will analyze the collected input and map the Dutch heart valve field. A synthesis report will be shared with DCVA partners. If there is sufficient support, a follow-up plan will be drafted and shared with potential funders—both within and outside the DCVA network—to explore options for establishing a national heart valve research consortium.
