Rien van der Zee is a cardiologist and chairman of the
Cardiovascular Biology Foundation. Currently, he is focusing on preclinical
diagnosing heart disease to reduce out-of-hospital mortality.
He has been conducting studies on cell physiology in the vascular wall both in
Maastricht and Boston to predict the occurrence of an acute coronary event that
leads to sudden death. His Foundation has participated and sponsored numerous
studies on cardiogenetics. In connecting health care professionals with
spinoffs of technical institutes and medical companies, he is now involved in
the development of a device that enables users to perform independent cardiac
monitoring.
