Karen Gaar-Humphreys is a PhD candidate at the Department of Cardiology, UMC Utrecht under the supervision of Prof. Folkert Asselbergs, Dr. Magdalena Harakalova, and Dr. Frank van Steenbeek.
Karen studied Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University and continued with her master’s degree in the Biology of Disease at the University of Utrecht. During this program, she focused on the study of disease mechanisms and learned to conduct cardiovascular disease-related translational research. Her master’s internship was focused on the high-throughput quantification of lipid droplets in hiPSC-cardiomyocytes. In continuance with the study of the mechanisms of disease with a focus on cardiomyopathy, she is currently working as part of the CONTRACT grant on the chronological pathophysiological effects of genetic cardiomyopathies in affiliation with the Double Dose program.
