Prevention of cardiovascular diseases is high on the agenda, both socially and politically. Several partners consider prevention an important topic. Therefore, the Prevention Committee was set up within the DCVA pillar Implementation in autumn 2023 to increase the impact of various (starting) projects and initiatives of the DCVA partners in the field of prevention.

Prof. dr. Fabrice Martens (professor of preventive cardiology, Amsterdam UMC) chairs the committee. The Committee aims to improve the implementation of cardiovascular risk management and to take stock of which initiatives or incipient projects are already ongoing and to explore if cooperation in the DCVA can accelerate and/or strengthen the initiatives.

During the kick-off meeting, attended by one or more mandated representatives from many DCVA partner, as well as several individual initiators, it was discussed what is going on in the field of prevention & what to focus on. Based on this input, three project groups were formed. These project groups, each coordinated by so-called 'kartrekkers', are focused on:

1. Optimising CVRM care pathways with better integration of the social domain (kartrekkers: Tom van Loenhout, Mariette Boon, Marisa Marcondes Rezende & Leo Wielaart)
2. Focus on hard-to-reach groups (specifically patients with a migration background) (katrekkers: Bert-Jan van den Born and Ineke Nederend)
3. Stimulating care evaluation (katrekkers: Douwe Atsma and Ronald Vollebregt)
