Prevention of cardiovascular diseases is high on the agenda, both socially and politically. Several partners consider prevention an important topic. Therefore, the Prevention Committee was set up within the DCVA pillar Implementation in autumn 2023 to increase the impact of various (starting) projects and initiatives of the DCVA partners in the field of prevention.

Prof. Dr. Fabrice Martens (Professor of Preventive Cardiology at Amsterdam UMC) chairs the committee. Its aim is to improve the implementation of cardiovascular risk management by identifying ongoing and emerging initiatives and exploring how collaboration within the DCVA can accelerate and strengthen these efforts.

During the kick-off meeting, attended by one or more mandated representatives from many DCVA partner organisations as well as several individual initiators, participants discussed the current landscape in cardiovascular prevention and identified key priorities. Based on these discussions, three project groups were established. Each group is coordinated by one or more kartrekkers (project leads) and focuses on:

1. Optimising CVRM care pathways with better integration of the social domain (kartrekkers: Tom van Loenhout, Mariette Boon, Marisa Marcondes Rezende & Leo Wielaart)
2. Focus on hard-to-reach groups (specifically patients with a migration background) (kartrekkers: Bert-Jan van den Born and Ineke Nederend)
3. Stimulating care evaluation (katrekkers: Douwe Atsma and Ronald Vollebregt)
