Floris van Daalen - PhD

Florian van Daalen is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Health Medicine and Life sciences at the University Maastricht. He works under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Andre Dekkers and Dr. Inigo Bermejo.

Florian van Daalen studied Artificial Intelligence at University Maastricht. During his Master’s he worked in clinical data science to devise a new ensemble based approach to deal with time dependencies in data. After his studies he worked in the commercial world as a software engineer. During his free time he continued working on his research resulting in a publication in 2019. After 6 years in the commercial world, he started as a PhD within the CARRIER Project. The focus of his research is to be able to combine different data-sources owned by various institutions for analysis, while allowing the institution to retain data ownership and protect privacy by applying federated learning techniques. Within federated learning his focus lays on vertically partitioned data.
